As children, it is easy to search our hearts, because we haven’t had a lifetime of building walls. That is why the Bible tells us to “come as a child,” -fully trusting. But after being hurt, suffering loss, heartache, and shame, our walls have become so thick around our hearts and our heads are so full of noise we have stored away, that it takes more effort to hear God’s voice, and to be honest with Him – with our whole hearts. This is where wisdom plays a part in our growing faith.
We have learned a plethora of knowledge and respond in ways we have been taught or seen others do. We protect ourselves and do what we deem necessary to obtain peace. But wisdom comes from the very heart we bury so deep because of the world’s rubble – the garbage we have taken in and sorted through, compartmentalizing the files in our brain. We respond to life with what we know, and usually, that comes from the surface of our hearts. The heart we let others see, and the heart we think we know.
But under the rubble, the noise of the world, the scars, is a beating heart where Jesus lives. Since Jesus’ Holy Spirit lives in our hearts, why do we keep the walls up, and why do we not visit the deep well of our hearts where Jesus resides? Peace cannot be found if we rely on our knowledge. Knowledge is good, but it is wisdom we seek for Kingdom living. And wisdom comes from His Holy Spirit living inside of us. As we visit the deep well of our hearts, and we are gut-honest with our Lord, we allow Him to remove some of those walls we have built. There is more than trusting Jesus for our salvation, we must trust Him with our lives. With our every day.
If we say we trust Him because we know we should but take back whatever we prayed about because we think (head knowledge) that we know the answer, or can execute a plan quicker, then we aren’t allowing wisdom (heart knowledge) to pour out of our hearts and to reach our brain. After a lifetime of doing things my way, I learned emphatic trust in the Lord. And even when things looked bleak, I trusted Him and had peace. That peace that surpasses all understanding, because I trusted with my heart, my soul, and my mind. With my ALL.
When I had asked the Lord for wisdom, He cleaned out my files – the things I stored in my brain that were of no use for His Kingdom, and He refreshed my soul with His Word. His Word has everything we need. The Bible is not just ink on paper, it is alive with a beating heart that speaks to ours. Open your heart and your Bible today – and every day. Ask the Lord for wisdom. With wisdom, comes trust, and with trust comes peace.
