Today’s Thrive is for the health of our mind. The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:8 to think on good things. We know that what we take in our minds affects what comes out of our mouths and actions. That is why it is essential to guard our minds with what we watch and listen to, but what about seeing things in color? Have you ever thought about that?
Remember the movie, The Wizard of Oz? It started in black and white, then we saw “technicolor.” Yet, it was all in Dorothy’s mind, wasn’t it? I have heard people talk about black and white thinking (meaning, either-or), or some would say, “That is a gray area,” and I always wondered why they didn’t use all of the colors in between the black and white? Do our circumstances always have to be labeled gray?
Why is it a negative thing if we come upon a challenge that will require work? Does God not know about it or have a plan in place? Yes, we are human, and it is our first reaction to think of hardships as unfavorable, but once we take it to our Father, it becomes a positive – because He promised! The circumstance is no longer gray; it has color.
I still have extra weight I am working to lose right now – probably a forever battle, but instead of it being a gray area of my life, I choose to think of it as green! Green spinach, green cukes, green zucchini, green avocado, and green pistachios. I can also think of it as red. Red strawberries, red apples, red blood pumping from my heart when I am active! Yellow! Yellow squash, yellow bananas, and SUNSHINE!
What is a negative that you can turn from gray into color?
Finances? Housework? Education? Career? Loneliness? Illness? These things don’t have to be negative. God knows about them, but have you let go of your grip? Just as swirling all the beautiful colors of the spectrum together in one spot on the canvas, we will get gray. There needs to be order in our lives. Organization. Direction. A plan.
Once we give it to the Father (plan of action), we don’t have to worry about the blob of gray. God will bring the colors together in beautiful harmony. Maybe we have tried to fix things our way, and we already have the blob – God has a fresh canvas! His mercies are new every morning!
The bottom line is – if God is for us, who can be against us?
Instead of always looking at things with gray lenses, we have a choice to see color. It may not be the whole spectrum all at once. God may use one color at a time, but eventually, you will see His artistic Masterpiece.
